[FIDH, CCR and SHRC urge the U.K. and the U.S.A. to implement the Convention Against Torture]

At the closure of the 33rd session of the Committee against Torture, International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and Scottish Human Rights Centre (SHRC) welcome the concluding observations and recommendations addressed by the Committee to the United Kingdom, particularly those related to counterterrorism legislation and the military intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan. The United States of America being a State party to the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment these recommendations are also relevant regarding the conduct of military operations by the latter and the definition of its counterterrorism policy.
